* includes a $15,000 WPT Tournament of Champions seat

1st Place: Sam Panzica ($1,358,000 + $15,000 WPT Championship Seat)

2nd Place: Anthony Spinella ($786,610)

Anthony Spinella doubles though Sam Panzica

Anthony Spinella is all in preflop holding king jack against the pocket sevens of Sam Panzica. The KKJ flop all but guarantees Anthony will double up, and the 4 on the turn has Sam drawing dead. Anthony will double up to just over 10 million, while Sam will be knocked down to 14 million.

Heads up play is about to begin

The final two players are taking their seats and will begin heads up play shortly at 150,000/300,000 with a 50,000. Here are the chip counts:

Sam Panzica - 18,475,000
Anthony Spinella - 5,725,000

3rd Place: Chino Rheem ($521,660)

Anthony Spinella moved all in preflop and Chino Rheem moved all in over the top. Sam Panzica got out of the way, and the cards were turned up:

Chino [Ad][Qs]
Anthony [Ks][Jc]

The [6s][2h][Qh] was a bad one for Anthony, as he could only catch a king to survive. Indeed, the [Kd] hit the turn, leaving Chino to be looking for a queen or an ace to knock out his opponent. The [4c] hit the river instead, doubling Anthony up and crippling Chino.

Chino got his last half million in on the very next hand holding queen ten, and was called by Anthony in the big blind holding 5-3. The K-K-8 flop was safe for Chino, but a five hit the turn to give Anthony a pair. Chino was unable to pair either of his hole cards on the river, and he will be eliminated in 3rd place. Chino will take home $521,660 for his efforts.

Heads up play will resume shortly.

Anthony Spinella doubles through Sam Panzica with an ace on the river

Anthony Spinella was all in for 2,925,000 holding [Ah][6h] and was up against the [7d][7c] of Sam Panzica. The [2d][6s][Qs] flop gave Anthony some hope, and he had five outs heading to the turn. The [4d] hit the turn and Anthony started collecting his belongings, but when the [Ad] hit the river, the audience let out a cry of excitement as Anthony doubled up. Sam is knocked down to just over 4 million as three handed play continues.

Updated chip counts at the break

The final three players are now on break. Here are updated chip counts:

Chino Rheem - 10,400,000
Anthony Spinella - 9,050,000
Sam Panzica - 4,750,000

4th Place: Paul Volpe ($349,610)

On a [8d][4s][7s] flop, Paul Volpe is all in holding [Qs][Js] against Chino Rheem's [Kh][Kd]. The turn is the [2c] and the river is the [8c], missing Paul's flush draw and eliminating him in 4th place. Paul will collect $349,610 for his efforts.

5th Place: Dennis Stevermer ($243,090)

Dennis Stevermer was all in preflop holding [Ad][8d] and was up against Chino Rheem's [Ks][9h]. Dennis was 62% to survive, but the [9c][7s][6c] flop gave Chino top pair. Dennis had plenty of outs with an open ended straight draw and an overcard, but the [4h] turn and [Qh] river failed to improve Dennis's hand. He will exit this tournament in 5th place, good for $243,090.

Anthony Spinella doubles through Chino Rheem

On a [Kh][9h][2h] flop, Anthony Spinella is all in with [Jh][3h] against Chino Rheem's [Ah][8c]. Anthony flopped a flush and needs to hold against Chino's nut flush draw. The turn [9c] and river [Js] keep Anthony's flush in front, and he will double up to just under 8 million.

Updated chip counts on break

The remaining 5 players are now on a 10 minute break. Here are updated chip counts:

Paul Volpe - 3,650,000
Chino Rheem - 11,705,000
Sam Panzica - 3,400,000
Dennis Stevermer - 2,160,000
Anthony Spinella - 3,275,000

Paul Volpe doubles through Chino Rheem

On the very next hand, Paul Volpe is all in for 1,370,000 with [Ah][Ad] and is called by Chino Rheem holding [As][Qc]. Paul is in great shape to double up when the flop falls [6h][Ac][Td], and the [2s] on the turn means Chino is drawing dead. The meaningless [Kh] on the river means Paul will double up.

6th Place: Rainer Kempe ($188,460)

Rainer Kempe was all in holding [As][9c] and was up against Chino Rheem's [Kh][Kd]. The [7h][6h][3h] left Rainer drawing slim, and the [3d] on the turn changed nothing. Rainer would need a non heart ace or nine to survive, but the [8s] hit the river instead. Rainer Kempe will be our 6th place finisher, collecting $188,460. Chino will collect the last Shooting Star bounty in the tournament, and play will continue five handed.

Dennis Stevermer doubles up

In our first all in and call of the day, Dennis Stevermer is all in holding [Ad][Kc] and is up against Rainer Kempe's [7d][6h]. There's not much of a sweat as the board runs out [Jh][Ts][3s][Jd][Td], and Dennis will double up.

Cards are in the air

Play has begun and Chino Rheem has won the first pot with [Qh][Jh].

Final table is about to begin

The final 6 players are being introduced and play will begin shortly. Blinds resume at 40,000/80,000 with a 10,000 ante. Levels will now be 60 minutes in length until heads up, when they become 30 minutes.

Final Table Reached

With the elimination of Sergio Aido in 7th place, the official final table is set. Official counts will be posted shortly. The final table resumes tomorrow at 4pm PST, and they will play down to a winner on the World Poker Tour TV set.

7th Place: Sergio Aido ($144,760)

Action folded to Rainer Kempe in the small blind, and he moved all in, having Sergio Aido in the big blind covered. Sergio snap called showing king queen, and Rainer had just nine deuce. But another deuce on the flop meant Rainer was in the lead, and Sergio failed to find a king or a queen to survive. He will exit this tournament in 7th place, collecting $144,760 for his efforts.

Chip counts at the break

8th Place: Igor Yaroshevsky ($106,520)

It took nearly three hours from the time Stephen Graner was eliminated in 9th place to the time we lost our 8th place finisher. Countless all ins and calls happened, and the short stack always seemed to survive. Finally, it could happen no longer. After losing a big pot with ace king against his opponent's pocket queens, Igor lost his final few chips to become our 8th place finisher. He will collect $106,520 for his efforts. Meanwhile, the remaining 7 players are redrawing for seats at the unofficial final table.

Igor Yaroshevsky beats A-K with A-K

Igor Yaroshevsky was all in preflop holding [Ah][Kd] and was up against his opponent's [As][Kc]. It looked as if the pot would be chopped, until the dealer placed four hearts on the community. Igor pulled out an amazing double up with 13 players remaining. When one more player is lost, there will be another redraw.

David Williams has been eliminated

On a final board reading Q-6-5-x-9, David Williams snap calls all in and rolls over queen five for two pair. But his opponent is holding eight seven for the nut straight. David Williams will be eliminated in 16th place, good for $36,050.

Matt Affleck has been eliminated

After taking a bad beat with ace eight vs. ace three and being knocked down to 51,000, Matt Affleck battled back to 190,000 before getting all in with [Kh][Qc] against his opponent's ace high. Unfortunately, Matt was unable to connect and will be eliminated in 17th place, good for $36,050.

Brian Altman eliminated in 19th, down to final three tables

Brian Altman moved all in and was called by Paul Volpe before David Williams moved all in over the top. Paul eventually folded, and David's pocket kings led Brian's pocket tens. The board ran out a full house, but David's full house was best, sending Brian to the rail in 19th place. He will earn $30,590 for his efforts. The remaining 18 players are now redrawing for seats at the final three tables.

Recent eliminations: 25th-30th Place

A dramatic double elimination saw the field shrink to 24 players. Cody Wiegann was all in with [5d][5c] and was in bad shape against Tom West's [9s][9c]. But they were both in worse shape against Xinyu Zhao's [Kd][Kc]. The board ran out clean, and Cody and Tom hit the rail, bringing the field down to four tables remaining. Here are the recent eliminations:

38th Place: Lander Lijo ($21,850)

Lander Lijo was all in preflop holding [Js][Jh] and was flipping against his opponent's [Ad][Kh]. The [6c][5c][4s] was safe for Lander, but the [7s] turn gave his opponents out to a chop. The [Kc] hit the river instead, sending Lander to the rail in 38th place, good for $21,850.

Sorel Mizzi has been eliminated

Sorel Mizzi was all in holding ace king and was dominating his opponent's ace jack. The T-3-A flop was safe for Sorel, leaving his opponent drawing to a jack. A king hit the turn, and Sorel's new friend the Hash Tag King celebrated with him, however a queen would make Sorel's opponent a straight. And a queen is just what landed on the river, dashing Sorel's hope of winning the 2017 Shooting Star.

David Tuckman has been eliminated

David Tuchman was all in preflop holding A-Q up against the pocket jacks of Christian Harder. The K-J-x flop left David drawing to a ten to make a straight. The queen on the turn changed nothing, and the nine on the river meant David would be eliminated in 52nd place. He will take home $19,120 for his efforts.

High Roller has concluded for the night

The final two players in the $25k High Roller are bagging up their chips for the night. They will return tomorrow at 1pm PST and continue playing at 600/1,200 blinds with a 200 ante. Here are the heads up chip counts:

Players are now in the money

After a long bubble, all 81 remaining players are now in the money. Eddy Sabat finally broke the bubble when his [Ks][Kc] held up against his Oscar Zarate-Ramirez's [Kd][Jd], all in on a [4c][9d][Td] flop. The [Th] turn and [7c] river meant Oscar had missed his flush and straight draws and would be the unfortunate bubble boy. The remaining 81 players are now guaranteed

Matt Stout takes a bad beat with pocket aces

It looks as if the bubble will burst as a player is all in holding pocket kings against Matt Stout's pocket aces. But a king in the door is bad news for Matt and the rest of the field. While he turns a straight draw, he is unable to resuck on the river, and has to ship over 130,000 to his opponent, putting Matt at around 10 big blinds as the bubble continues.

Mike Sexton triples up on the bubble

Mike Sexton is all in on the bubble and is called in two spots. Mike has the best of it with [Qh][Qd] and will have to hold up against [Ac][Qc] and [8s][8c]. The [2h][Js][Kc] flop gives his ace-queen opponent more outs, and the [Jc] on the turn changes nothing. When the [6d] hits the river, Mike's queens are best and he will triple up. The player with the pocket eights wins the side pot, and hand for hand play will continue.

Play is now hand for hand

The field is now down to 82 players, and all tables are finishing their current hand. Hand-for-hand play is about to begin.

Ryan Riess has been eliminated

Ryan Riess was all in on the turn with the nut straight and had to fade just one card as his opponent had a flush draw. Unfortunately, the river completed his opponent's flush, sending Ryan Riess to the rail in 84th place, just 3 places shy of making the money.

Dominik Nitsche has been eliminated

Action folded to the small blind who limped for 5,000, prompting Dominik Nitsche in the big blind to move all in. After a bit of time in the tank, the small blind called with [Ah][4h] which was flipping with Dominik's pocket deuces. By the river, the board had double paired, counterfeiting Dominik's pair and sending him to the rail, just a few spots from the money.

One table until the money

The Main Event is down to 90 players, which means a single table full of players separates the 81 that will make the money. Still 15 bounties are alive and in the hunt.

100 players remain at dinner break

With 2 minutes until dinner break, Scotty Nguyen was eliminated when his ace-king fell to his opponent's pocket fives on an x-x-A-A-5 board.

The field is now down to 100 players, and those players are now on a one hour dinner break. Play will resume at approximately 7:30pm PST at 2,500/5,000 blinds with a 500 ante.

$2,100 Turbo Prize Pool & Payouts

Day 2 is Under Way

Cards are in the air for Day 2 of the 2017 Bay 101 Shooting Star. 264 players remain from a starting field of 806 entrants, and the blinds will resume at 800/1,600 with a 200 ante, with 38:54 left on the clock. The field will take a break after this level and then play 1,000/2,000 with a 300 ante. The plan is to play to the final 36 players today, with the top 81 players making the money.
